Cake Smash’s are a fun and sometimes messy photo shoot for a baby about to turn one….. i say ‘sometimes’ messy because it can be more of a cake prod and poke than a smash!! If you are not familiar with the concept then this is the general gist…… Baby’s between 11 - 13 months are given a cake with soft frosting on and encouraged to take a hand full whilst a photographer takes pictures of their cute cake covered faces. The tradition of it goes that it’s the first time they have tasted something so sweet and the new experience of exploring a brand new sensory overload gives them such natural expressions of joy and surprise that it a very memorable and photo worthy moment for the the parents celebrating their baby’s 1st birthday.

Why is my cake smash different?? I set it up in ancient Essex woodland.
The cake smash tradition has drifted over from America, like a lot of things do, but i wanted to offer the families of Saffron Walden and Essex something different. Our woodland is so beautiful and with the changing seasons it seemed like the perfect English twist - something that the Americans did not offer because they did them in colourful air conditioned studio’s.
The Beautiful Audley End Park is a public park that wraps around the old town of Saffron Walden in Essex and is next door to English Heritages Audley End House and Gardens.
It’s the perfect back drop to a Teddy Bears Picnic themed cake smash and because i specialise in photographing children and families outdoors its the perfect combo.
I offer earthy, natural and a little boho styled cake smash set up and there are 4 themes, Teddy Bears Picnic, Wildflowers ( perfect for when the Bluebells are in bloom), Wild One and White Ivy and Eucalyptus and White Ivy. Each theme can be personalised further with sentimental teddy bears or personalised cake toppers.
The Cake Smash is the perfect way to celebrate the end of a year full of first’s. First’s for both you as parents and your baby.

There are so many choices and so many styles. Photographers are creative people and have their own style. Make sure you fall in love with a photographers gallery before you book.
Once you have a few photographers in mind and you are happy that you would love their pictures on your walls, make contact, have a chat, feel the vibe, do you think their personality would fit your with your family? Read google reviews, are they good with the babies, did they make the parents feel relaxed. If the photographer fits….. the images will show it!. Top tip: If a photographer is out of your budget but you absolutely love their photos, get in contact and ask if they have a payment plan? If you book it early enough in advance then you can put some money aside every month leading up to the session so that you know you will be able to buy everything that you desire!
